Connecting Folk

Connecting Folk, sponsored by Grassy Hill Entertainment, is a program to match a first-time attendee with an experienced attendee to share tips and advice.

Sometimes a simple conversation with someone who has been there can make all the difference in the world. First-time attendees are an integral part of the FAI community with over 1,100 attendees joining us for the first time in 2018. We are deeply invested in the new members of our community and in 2019 we aim to do even more to ensure their success.

Connecting Folk is a program to welcome and orient first-time FAI Conference attendees by matching them with a veteran FAI attendee who will act as a guide for the upcoming conference. Guides share tips, advice, and act as a resource for first-timers leading up to the conference.

Guides

Guides are asked to make a 30-minute commitment in advance of the conference for each first-timer connection in the form of a call or meeting. FAI Staff will connect volunteer guides to first-timers via email beginning August 2018. Within two weeks of the initial connection, guides are asked to reach out to their first-timer. At that point, it will be up to the guide and first-timer to arrange a phone call or in-person meeting.

Guide Sign-Up

It is not a requirement that guides attend the conference. However, it is a great benefit for the first-timer.

First-Timers

Once enrolled, FAI staff will connect first-timers with an experienced guide who has previously attended the FAI conference. First-timer and guide connections will begin in August 2018. Within two weeks of the initial connection, first-timers are asked to reach out or respond to their guide. At that point, it will be up to the guide and first-timer to arrange a phone or in-person meeting.

First-Timer Sign-Up

If two weeks have passed with no initial communication, participants may ask to be rematched.
