Being a volunteer for FAI 2016 was a completely fabulous and life-changing experience for me. I loved being a volunteer, and it really helped me enjoy my very first FAI. I also really appreciated that people from KC donated food for the volunteers, as it made a huge positive impact on my life that week. I was blown away by the talent and musicians that I got to hear that week. My own growth as a musician and as a person has been wonderful since the Conference. I can't wait until next year!Laura Locke
Anyone over the age of 16 can volunteer at the conference. You do not need to be in the music industry to volunteer - a good portion of our volunteers are enthusiastic folk fans.
As a volunteer, you will be assigned to a specific team (security, production, runner, etc.) each with its own Crew Chief. Crew Chiefs are responsible for scheduling and training a specific volunteer area of the conference and they are also responsible for checking in with their volunteers throughout the conference to ensure that volunteers understand their assignment.
Volunteer teams include:
As a volunteer, you will are required to attend our onsite volunteer orientation. Two sessions are offered - choose the one that fits best with your schedule.
The mission of Folk Alliance International is to nurture, engage, and empower the international folk music community - traditional and contemporary, amateur and professional - through education, advocacy and performance.
