Folk in the Schools, now in its second year, is Folk Alliance’s outreach program whose primary focus of offering Kansas City schools and students the opportunity to interact with national and international folk musicians during the conference. Folk in the Schools’ activities range from acoustic performance in small or large groups, workshops, and one-on-one student interaction.
This year, we are working with a local Kansas City organization PrepKC, an organization whose mission is to create and implement strategies to improve college and career preparation for Kansas City’s urban students. Through PrepKC, we are building relationships with local Title I schools such as Harmon High School, Grandview High School, and Smith-Hale Middle School.
The mission of Folk Alliance International is to nurture, engage, and empower the international folk music community - traditional and contemporary, amateur and professional - through education, advocacy and performance.
